I first heard about David on the BBC news website a year ago and he's popped up in so many articles and videos since. Infographics are turning into a design standard of the decade and he's at the forefront of spreading the word. His TED talk covers some of the basics and he shows some fantastic examples - the Facebook break-up graphic is an amusing highlight.

Threadless.com is one of those sites that's defined the noughties - tapping into web 2.0, social networking, crowdsourcing etc to deliver a very cool product. Judging by this video founders Jeffrey Kalmikoff and Jake Nickell are refreshingly normal and it all seems quite a laugh.
A DIY approach, taking a lot of risks and enjoying the ride clearly pays dividends and there's much to admire in the business.

The likes of Google's 20% personal projects rule and Stefan Sagmeister's sabbatical year off every seven years (!!!) show that under the right circumstances devoting time to unpaid or personal work can reap dividends both personally and professionally. Left is Right recently started on a number of personal projects, beginning with graphics work based around the music of The Pictish Trail, a part of Fife's Fence Collective. The second was manipulating the photography of Emma Wood for the Plan B Boards work, both in the work section of the site. Update - more of the same here.

A huge inspiration behind our new branding - and no doubt a lot of other design work in the world right now - has been the City of Melbourne's rebrand. Created by Jason Little at Landor Associates in Sydney, the logo and brand implementation is bold, flexible and simple, three elements we've tried to maintain in our own design.
Its a rare treat to see such an impressive work tied to public sector / government and used on a such a large scale.
